Julia Creek

Julia Creek is a pleasant historical town and nice to take a walk. Julia Creek also has an award-winning visitor information center.

After we arrived at Mt Isa, we drove to Camooweal, about 190 km away. Since we were famished, we took a quick break by enjoying a picnic lunch at the Herbertvale Station. We relaxed for a while before heading to the start of the Pinnacle Trail and hiking into our first campsite.

When you arrive in Richmond, visit the Kronosaurus Korner to journey back 100 million years. This will help you immerse and fully understand the entire region's history. You can see Australia's best-preserved dinosaur skeleton here, too, Minmi. There are several other dinosaur skeletons here to visit as well.

We started our day early, at sunrise, to begin our first day on the Big Loop trail. We trekked across sparse spinifex hills, enjoying some breathtaking views. The never-ending views and vast expanse were a sight to behold, and we were truly delighted. We recommend that everyone remember to bring a camera along to capture the stunning views. You will probably not see views like these anywhere else.We stopped at the Big Bend Waterhole for our morning breakfast. Once we had fueled up with a hearty breakfast and some rest, we trekked for 5 km more to reach the StockYard Gorge. We decided to explore and enjoy the beautiful gorge. The water was very cold, but we still decided to take a dip. The swim was refreshing and exhilarating and provided much-needed relief to our tired legs.We set up our camping tent and enjoyed dinner under the beautiful canopy of stars. A delicious meal under the beautiful stars was perfect for reflecting on a day of great hiking.

Hughenden

Hughenden has a mammoth life-size dinosaur replica named Hughie that will greet you after the drive!

We had a trek of about 16 km to cover, starting at the base of the scenic escarpment. We enjoyed our morning tea and breakfast at the Tree Snake Spring while admiring the freshwater running from the escarpment. After breakfast, we began a gentle incline with some sharper hills before camping at the head of Dry Gorge. We were tired and decided to enjoy a few drinks while looking at the stunning views of the gorge. Having lit a bonfire, we had our dinner under the canopy of stars before retiring for the night.

Winton

Spend some time exploring the quirky town of Winton and visiting some of the local pubs.

We got some great opportunities to fill our Instagram account with stunning photos. One to behold is the scenery with the sun peaking over the escarpment and shining down on the valley below. It was an easy day for us, and we had plenty of time today to enjoy the beautiful scenery. The day ended with our arrival at the campsite at the base of the Mt. Isa range. We enjoyed a lavish dinner here before going to sleep.

Be sure to visit the waterhole of Mick Dundee's from Crocodile Dundee films located in Mckinlay.

Today was the day to explore the Lost City, which was about 5 km away, a hidden gem in Australia. The Lost City is a series of limestone formations, some 530 million years old. After an enjoyable day exploring the Lost City, we returned to the Stock Camp. We will be going back to Mt Isa for our departure.

Winton to McKinlay

At Mount Isa, explore the Australia Outback mining capital by visiting the Isa Visitor Centre.&nbsp;

The next day after our trek, we decided to do some local sightseeing. We visited the Boodjamulla National Park, which was around 400kms away from Mt. Isa. We visited Lawn Hill Gorge, Lawn Hill Creek, and Middle Gorge. We did a relaxed hike up the Indarri Falls track and Rainbow Serpent track.&nbsp;

McKinlay to Mount Isa

For trekking enthusiasts, hiking through some of Australia's remote and untouched landscapes can be an unforgettable experience. The 43 miles hike will leave you exhilarated, inspired, and in awe of the majestic beauty of the landscape. It will take you through the limestone escarpments through the Boodjamulla National Park and Little's Range.
