If you are interested in sightseeing, the best place to stay in Rome is the city center. However, for longer stays, you can stay away from the Rome center as it will be cheaper. We started our day with a trip to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Sitting beside each other, they are a sight to behold, especially if you are a history buff. We recommend buying your tickets for the Colosseum in advance. After exploring the Colosseum and Roman Forum, we also took the time to climb atop Palatine Hill. The stunning ruins and the view from the hill were simply breathtaking.We took a lunch break near Piazza Venezia and then headed over to Piazza Venezia, the Vittoriano monument, and Campidoglio Hill. Short walk downhill from Campidoglio is Rome's ghetto, an area of important history, small streets, charming corners, and some of the best food in the whole of Rome. We stayed for dinner before heading back to the hotel.

Pantheon

We started our day with a trip to the Pantheon; the views were nothing like we had ever seen before. We also visited the Piazza Di Pietra, Piazza Della Minerva, and Piazza Sant’Eustachio. For lunch, we went to La Ciambella near Piazza Navona, a stylish wine bar with some of the best food in the city. After lunch, we decided to see the Caravaggio paintings at&nbsp;Contarelli Chapel&nbsp;and stopped at the San Luigi dei Francesi on the way.

Vatican City

On this day, we decided to cross the trip and explore the area around Vatican City. The square and the basilica did not take long, while the Sistine Chapel and Vatican museum took a few hours. We had booked tickets to the Vatican museum in advance from the museum's website, and we recommend that you do so too. The museum was breathtaking, albeit a bit crowded for our liking. We also visited the castle Sant'Angelo which was relatively crowd-free and wonderful.Lunch was at Borgo, where we gorged on some lovely pasta dishes and dessert. After spending the morning exploring the Vatican, we headed to the Via del Corso for some shopping. There were some amazing designer as well as high-street items, something you should surely explore. We had dinner near Fontana di Trevi before heading over to the hotel to retire for the night.

Villa Borghese Park

We wanted to relax today and so decided to visit the Villa Borghese, a large and beautiful garden famous for its beauty. The Borghese Gallery on its grounds is also equally famous. Villa Borghese is also a lovely place for some lunch, and the small cafes near the pond offer the most relaxing atmosphere. We also visited the National Gallery for Modern Art, which had some fascinating exhibitions.The afternoon was spent exploring quartiere Coppede, a small area not far from Villa Borghese. The area had incredible architecture, and a stroll here left us with an unforgettable impression of Rome. For dinner, we headed back to Rione Monti in the city center.

We decided to explore the outskirts of the city on the last day of our trip. A 30-minute train trip later, we were at the Ostia Antica, a wonderful archaeological site. We had lunch at the Ostiense near the Museum. There were a lot of food options available here.After lunch, we headed to Piazzale Ostiense, a protestant cemetery of Rome, which has the graves of many important artists and writers. It also offers spectacular views of Rome's Pyramid of Caius Cestius. We also hiked up Aventine Hill, one of the seven hills that Rome was originally built on. The most scenic part of Aventine Hill is the Garden of Oranges, a green area with a beautiful terrace overlooking Rome.We headed back to Testaccio for our last meal in one of the most local and famous neighborhoods for Roman food.

No city in the world merges the ancient with the modern like Rome. With so much history, many believe that a lifetime is less to explore every city's church, garden, bridge, and ancient palazzo. However, we only had five days in hand and decided to make the most of this sensational city. Rome has a never-ending list of sights, attractions, and activities that five days may seem like very little. Nevertheless, here's how you can make the most of 5 days as we did.
